Aluminum offers superior heat dissipation due to its high thermal conductivity, while thermally conductive plastics can be used for lightweight applications, but they have lower heat dissipation capabilities. Proper material selection ensures efficient cooling and prevents overheating, which can cause component failure.
Multi-piece enclosures require precise assembly to ensure effective EMI shielding. If the joints and seams are not perfectly sealed, they can create gaps, leading to electromagnetic interference (EMI) leakage. Conductive gaskets and overlapping seams are often used to maintain continuous shielding. Sensitivity components may experience signal degradation without proper EMI management, affecting performance.
Enclosures in outdoor or high-altitude environments often have pressure relief valves or breathable membranes to equalize internal pressure. This ensures that seals perform effectively in dynamic or high-vibration environments.

Seals and fasteners are also selected for their resistance to saltwater and chemicals.
