Having Doubts? Our FAQ

How does Frigate accommodate custom conductor mixes like routing RF signals alongside power lines?

Our programmable weaving looms allow us to place completely different cable types—such as miniature coaxial cables, shielded twisted pairs, and heavy-gauge power wires—parallel to one another in a single ribbon. This eliminates internal friction and ensures optimal EMI/RFI isolation across distinct signals.

We have a strict bend radius constraint in an enclosure. Why should we choose woven ribbon over extruded flat cables?

Extruded cables encapsulate wires in a solid plastic matrix, creating high internal tension when bent. Frigate’s textile weave allows individual conductors to slide microscopically against each other, drastically lowering the minimum bend radius and preventing kinks or insulation tears during tight routing.

Can your woven ribbon cables be terminated with standard, off-the-shelf IDC or circular connectors?

Yes. We can design the cable with precise pitch spacing at specified termination zones to match standard insulation displacement connectors (IDCs), or breakout the woven ends into discrete leads for soldering to D-sub, Micro-D, or circular military-grade connectors.

What mechanical protection do weaving fibers like Kevlar or Nomex add compared to standard jacketed bundles?

Integrating high-tensile fibers like Kevlar directly into the weave matrix adds exceptional structural strength, acting as an integrated strain relief that protects copper conductors from axial pull forces. Nomex or specialized nylons add superior abrasion resistance when routing over sharp metal edges.

How do you ensure electrical performance and pitch consistency over long production runs?

Every production batch undergoes strict in-line monitoring to maintain exact pitch tolerances, followed by Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) and 100% electrical testing for continuity, insulation resistance, and dielectric withstand voltage to guarantee compliance with your engineering drawing.
