High-strength aluminium alloy — 6061-T6 (structural / extrusion); 5052-H32 (sheet / formed enclosure body).
Wall Thickness
0.8 mm – 3.0 mm structural variants.
Surface Finish — Standard
UV-resistant polyester powder coat, 60–80 µm DFT. RAL colour to customer specification.
Surface Finish — Premium
Type II Sulphuric Acid Anodise (clear or colour, 10–25 µm); Type III Hard Anodise (25–50 µm, MIL-A-8625 Type III).
Ingress Protection
IP65 (dust-tight, water jet resistant); IP66 (high-pressure water jet); IP67 (temporary immersion to 1 m / 30 min).

Product Description

Designed for unattended outdoor service across utility-scale farms, rooftop commercial arrays, and hybrid storage deployments. Every enclosure is fabricated against your dimensional and performance specification, not adapted from a standard catalogue.

Frigate’s application engineers evaluate each submission against real-world failure modes, gasket degradation under thermal cycling, galvanic corrosion at cable entry points, and UV-driven surface breakdown before a single part is cut. The result is an enclosure built for the specific environmental stresses of your installation site, not a generic product retrofitted to your assembly.

Operating Temperature

Continuous: −40°C to +75°C. Peak short-term: up to +85°C (material and finish dependent).

Thermal Conductivity

Aluminium body: 205 W/m·K. Passive conduction enables heat spreading from mounted PCBs and power semiconductors to enclosure exterior.

Sealing System

Silicone (VMQ) and Fluoroelastomer (FKM) compression gaskets.

NEMA Rating

NEMA 3R (rain, sleet, ice formation); NEMA 4 (hose-down, splashing water); NEMA 4X

Salt Spray Resistance

≥500 hrs (polyester powder coat on pretreated substrate); ≥1,000 hrs (hard anodise with sealing).

Up to 40 dB attenuation across PV inverter switching frequencies (kHz–MHz range).

Cable Entry Management

Pre-punched and blank gland zones on customer-specified faces. Compatible with M16–M63 metric cable glands.

Typical dimensional ranges run from 300 mm up to 1,800 mm in height depending on the application, with IP65 through IP67 achievable across all families subject to gasket and closure configuration.

None of these represent fixed SKUs, every geometry, cutout pattern, cable entry face, and mounting interface is defined by your submitted drawing or specification. Frigate’s engineering team confirms design-for-manufacture feedback within 3–5 business days of receiving your dimensional drawing, 3D model (STEP/IGES), or written specification.

Having Doubts? Our FAQ

We have an existing enclosure design from another supplier. Can Frigate manufacture directly from those drawings without redesigning from scratch?

Yes, and this is one of the most common situations we handle. Send us your existing drawings (DXF, STEP, PDF, or IGES) and we’ll review them for manufacturability in aluminium at our facility. If there are minor adjustments needed for tooling or process reasons, our engineers flag them with alternatives before anything is committed. Your IP stays yours; an NDA is available before you share a single file.

We need IP67 but also need significant cable entry, won't the gland penetrations compromise the rating?

Not if the entry system is engineered correctly which is exactly where most off-the-shelf enclosures fall short. Frigate specifies gland plate geometry, gland thread engagement depth, and sealing face compression as part of the enclosure design. IP67-rated metric cable glands (M16–M63) are fully compatible when the entry zones are properly sized and the correct gland type is selected for each conductor category. We confirm the complete cable entry configuration against IP rating as part of our DFM review. 

Our deployment site is a coastal solar farm with high humidity and salt-laden air. What finish should we specify?

For coastal and high-humidity tropical environments, we recommend hard anodise (Type III, MIL-A-8625) over standard powder coat, it provides over 1,000 hours salt spray resistance per ASTM B117 versus approximately 500 hours for powder coat on pretreated substrate. If your installation is within a few kilometres of the shoreline or in a region with persistent marine-layer conditions, hard anodise with sealing is the right call. Share your site location and installation type with our team during the enquiry stage and we’ll confirm the appropriate finish specification for your environment.

Can Frigate support ongoing replenishment once we move into full production, or is this a one-order arrangement?

Frigate is set up for ongoing OEM supply relationships, not one-off transactions but to do that well on our end, we need a production order projection from your side. Once we understand your rolling volume and delivery cadence, we allocate dedicated facility capacity and plan material procurement accordingly. This is what allows us to hold lead times stable across your production schedule rather than treating each order as a fresh queue. The earlier we receive your forecast, the better we can structure the supply arrangement around your programme timeline.

We're evaluating two or three enclosure suppliers in parallel. What does Frigate need from us to give a meaningful comparison quote?

A dimensional drawing or STEP file, your target IP and NEMA rating, preferred surface finish, quantity range, and any critical compliance requirements, that’s enough for us to return a technically grounded quote rather than a ballpark number. If you’re at an earlier stage and only have a specification sheet or a rough dimensional envelope, that works too as a starting point. We’d rather give you something accurate to compare against than a fast number that changes later in the process.
