Structural steel framework enclosures for large industrial machinery, CNC machining centres, robotic welding and handling cells, industrial press guards, pump and compressor acoustic enclosures, turbine and generator housings, and large process machinery guards. Manufactured in sections for site assembly with dimensional alignment provisions at all section joints. Structural frame, panel infill, access doors, maintenance hatches, safety interlock provisions, acoustic lining, and surface finish are all fabricated and verified before dispatch. Enclosure geometry, section split positions, and all structural provisions are defined by your design. 

Primary Frame Material
S355JR structural steel (EN 10025) — RHS, SHS, UB, UC, and channel sections. S275JR where lower strength is adequate.
Frame Member Sizing
Minimum 50×50×4 mm RHS for secondary frame members.
Weld Standard
AWS D1.1 structural steel; ISO 3834-2 quality requirements.
Frame Squareness
±3.0 mm diagonal squareness over full enclosure footprint; ±2.0 mm on section joint interface faces
Anchor Bolt Provisions
M16–M30 anchor bolt holes in base frame;

Product Description

Frigate manufactures large machinery enclosures as complete structural fabrications — welded S355 steel framework, panel infill, acoustic lining, access doors, maintenance hatches, safety interlock provisions, observation windows, and surface finish all fabricated and verified before dispatch. Enclosures are manufactured in sections sized to your transport envelope and site access constraints, with machined section joint interfaces, alignment dowels, and lifting points at all positions defined by your design package. Section split positions, joint sealing details, and assembly provisions are confirmed in writing before frame fabrication begins.

Lifting Points

Fabricated lifting lugs or trunnions rated for section gross weight with 3:1 safety factor; rated load marked on each lifting point

Section Joint Flatness

±2.0 mm on all section joint interface faces; machined or ground where required to achieve assembly tolerance

Site Joint Sealing

EPDM compression strip or structural silicone sealant at all site assembly joints; sealing specification included in assembly instructions

Standard Panel

2.0–3.0 mm CRCA or galvanised steel sheet; bolted or welded to frame; removable for maintenance access where specified

Ventilation Attenuators

Lined duct inserts at all inlet and exhaust apertures; insertion loss of attenuator confirmed against overall acoustic target

Access Doors

Single and double leaf steel doors; continuous piano hinge or heavy-duty butt hinges rated for door leaf weight; multi-point locking or slam-action latch per access frequency requirement

Safety Interlock Provisions

Switch mounting brackets and cable conduit provisions at all access doors and hatches; interlock type and wiring are your safety system scope; mounting provisions fabricated to your switch interface drawing

Cable & Service Entry

Pre-punched and blank gland zones; robot umbilical entry provisions; pneumatic and hydraulic line penetration sleeves at positions per your services routing drawing

Surface Preparation

Sa 2.5 blast clean per ISO 8501-1 for C4 and C5 systems; Sa 2.0 for C3; zinc phosphate wash primer for standard powder coat

Our enclosure is too large for standard transport. How does Frigate determine the section split positions?

Section split positions are determined at DFM review based on your transport envelope constraints, maximum vehicle width, height, and length — and site access limitations such as doorway openings and crane lift positions. Frigate confirms the section split strategy in writing before frame fabrication begins, including the joint interface detail, alignment dowel positions, and site joint sealing specification, so the split positions are structurally and acoustically sound rather than determined by convenience.

We need 25 dB(A) insertion loss for our compressor enclosure. What drives whether that's achievable?

Insertion loss at that level depends on four things simultaneously, panel mass and lining depth, door seal continuity across the full perimeter, attenuator performance at all ventilation apertures, and acoustic treatment of all service penetrations. Achieving 25 dB(A) as a system requires all four to be designed together. Submit your compressor sound power data and the target insertion loss, and Frigate’s acoustic review will return a panel specification, door seal design, and penetration treatment strategy confirmed against your target before fabrication is committed.

Our enclosure design is still being finalised alongside the machinery layout. At what stage should Frigate be engaged?

As early as the machinery layout stage, enclosure section split positions, anchor bolt provisions, and service penetration locations are significantly easier to resolve when the machinery layout is still fluid. Engaging at the concept drawing stage also allows Frigate to flag structural frame requirements that affect the machinery mounting interface before the machine tool supplier finalises their installation specification.

We need the site joint paint system to match the factory-applied coating. How does Frigate handle that?

Joint interface faces are masked during factory coating application so the site joint steel is clean and correctly prepared for field application. Frigate supplies the site joint paint system specification, primer, topcoat product, application method, and DFT targets, matched to the factory coating system, alongside the assembly instructions. The site joint paint system is the same product range as the factory system to ensure appearance and corrosion performance continuity across the assembled enclosure.
