Machine Guarding Aluminum Profile (T-Slot)

The T-slot aluminum profile system allows for non-permanent, tool-free assembly using precision-milled slots and high-tolerance fasteners. This modular architecture supports rapid deployment of perimeter and point-of-operation guarding without requiring hot-work permits or custom fabrication. Structural rigidity is achieved through form-locked connections, enabling load-bearing frameworks that can be disassembled and reconfigured as machine layouts evolve. This characteristic is particularly critical in flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) and production cells with short retooling cycles.

Product Description

Each profile is extruded from 6063-T6 aluminum with controlled wall thicknesses and internal geometry optimized for weight-to-strength ratio. Moment of inertia and section modulus values are calculated to ensure the profiles can withstand lateral and axial forces from incidental contact, vibration, or maintenance access loads. Profiles are also validated for dimensional stability under thermal cycling, ensuring precision alignment of panels, interlocks, and access systems over time.

Moment of Inertia (Ix / Iy)

Section Modulus (Zx / Zy)

3.25 × 10³ mm³ ensures resistance to yielding under maximum bending stress.

Radius of Gyration (ix / iy)

33.9 mm radius optimizes load resistance relative to profile cross-sectional geometry.

Max. Axial Load (Euler Buckling)

8.5 kN axial load capacity at 1 m length with pinned ends, based on Euler theory

Max. Load at Slot (Shear Test)

Withstands 1250 N shear load using M8 slot nuts, tested at 90° load angle.

Torsional Constant (J)

2.1 × 10³ mm⁴ enables moderate torsional stiffness during rotational load exposure.

Max Torque (Torsional Load Limit)

Handles up to 42 Nm torque before profile twist deformation exceeds elastic limits.

Elastic Deflection (100 N Load)

Maximum deflection of 0.24 mm under center-applied 100 N load on 1 m beam.

Dynamic Load Rating

Rated for 600 N cyclic loading, tested for 10⁶ cycles at ambient temperature range.

Compatibility Tolerance

±0.1 mm T-slot dimensional tolerance supports precise fit with standardized connectors and fasteners.

Machining Precision Grade

CNC-machined to ISO IT12 standard with ±0.2 mm length tolerance for frame accuracy.

Fatigue Life (Slot Edge)

Slot edges survive >10⁷ cycles under 200 N cyclic stress, verified per ISO 1099.

Thermal Expansion (ΔL @ ΔT=50°C)

Aluminum expands 1.15 mm per meter over 50°C rise, calculated from 23 µm/m·K.

Slot Pull-Out Resistance

Resists 1450 N axial force with anti-slip plates locked inside T-slot interface.

Max Load Bearing at Corner Joint

Sustains up to 2.8 kN load using dual angle brackets and high-torque M8 bolts.

Technical Advantages

The profile system is engineered to interface with EN ISO 13849-1 and IEC 62061 compliant safety components, including RFID interlocks, light curtains, and emergency stop systems. T-slots support embedded routing of signal and power cables, sensor wiring, and pneumatic tubing, reducing external clutter and improving protection against mechanical damage. Cable and sensor management is compatible with IP-rated enclosures and control elements, facilitating integration into safety PLC architectures and machine condition monitoring systems.

All components are designed to conform with applicable safety regulations, including OSHA 1910 Subpart O, ANSI B11.19, and ISO 14120 for fixed and movable guards. Guarding assemblies can be validated against risk assessment findings and performance level requirements (PLr) per ISO 13849-1. Panels and infills accommodate both Category 3 and Category 4 safeguarding devices, including coded access, dual-channel monitoring, and force-guided relays.

Digital Design Support and Engineering Documentation

Parametric CAD models of profiles, connectors, and accessories are available in all major formats (STEP, IGES, Parasolid) for immediate integration into machine layouts and digital twins. Engineering data includes loading specifications, fastening torque values, deflection curves, and panel interface standards. System BOMs can be exported for integration with ERP systems to streamline procurement and traceability of components under ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 quality systems.

Profiles are extruded and CNC-cut to maintain ±0.2 mm length tolerances and ±0.05 mm slot positioning. This ensures repeatability of assembled systems, reduces cumulative dimensional error, and simplifies alignment of guarding components with equipment enclosures, gantry rails, and access doors. This level of precision is essential for applications requiring high repeatability in multi-cell production environments or where guarding integrates with motion axes.

Having Doubts? Our FAQ

Check all our Frequently Asked Question

How does Frigate ensure dimensional accuracy of cut-to-length profiles?

Frigate uses CNC-controlled saw stations with digital length encoders to maintain ±0.2 mm cutting tolerance. Profiles are measured post-cut with calibrated gauges to ensure compliance with ISO 2768-m standards. This minimizes cumulative alignment errors during on-site assembly.

Can Frigate’s T-slot profiles support panel installations without external brackets?

Yes. Frigate’s profiles feature internal panel grooves and clamping elements that hold infills without external hardware. This allows flush installation of polycarbonate, wire mesh, or aluminum composite panels while maintaining structural integrity.

How does Frigate address electrostatic discharge (ESD) in electronics guarding?

Frigate provides ESD-safe profiles with grounding kits and conductive connectors that bypass anodic insulation. The system supports integration of antistatic panels and wrist strap grounding points. It complies with IEC 61340-5-1 for ESD-sensitive zones.

What profile finishes does Frigate offer for chemical-resistant environments?

Frigate supplies profiles with Type II clear anodizing at 15 µm thickness for corrosion and chemical resistance. This finish withstands exposure to cutting fluids, mild alkalis, and solvents. Optional hard anodizing is available for abrasive environments.

How does Frigate handle the thermal expansion of guarding structures in high-temperature zones?

Frigate incorporates thermal expansion joints and floating connectors in large assemblies. Aluminum’s expansion coefficient (23.1 µm/m·K) is factored into design for temperature ranges up to 80°C. This prevents warping and maintains enclosure geometry over time.
