Coffee Roaster Agitator Arm

Coffee Roaster Agitator Arm is designed to address non-uniform agitation caused by turbulent airflow and inconsistent mechanical sweep. The arm’s blade geometry is optimized using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to ensure homogenous particle motion across the entire drum radius. This prevents localized overdevelopment and underdevelopment of beans during thermal exposure.

200–1000 mm (Customizable based on roaster drum size)

Arm Profile/Shape

Paddle-type (flat blades), Helical (for even mixing), Tines (for granular beans)

Material Specification

Stainless Steel (SS 304/316), High-Temp Alloy (Inconel 600), Titanium (Grade 2)

Shaft Mounting Interface

Bore Diameter – 20–50 mm; Keyway – 6×6 mm to 12×8 mm; Spline – SAE/ISO standards (if high torque)

Surface Finish (Food Contact)

Ra ≤ 0.8 µm (Mirror polish), Electropolished (FDA/EC 1935 compliant)

Product Description

Coffee Roaster Agitator Arm is constructed from thermally stabilized stainless steel alloys with low thermal expansion coefficients (typically below 11 µm/m°C). This suppresses thermal deformation during repeated exposure to roasting temperatures exceeding 500°C. The result is maintained arm integrity, constant rotational clearance, and zero contact-induced wear on the drum wall.

Weld Quality/Finishing

TIG Welded (Seamless, porosity-free), Ground Smooth (No crevices for debris accumulation)

Straightness/Flatness Tolerance

≤ 0.5 mm/m (Prevents imbalance during rotation)

Hardness (Wear Resistance)

SS 304/316 – 150–200 HV; Hardened Variants – 40–50 HRC (if coated)

Operating Temperature Range

-20°C to 300°C (SS 316 standard), Up to 600°C (Inconel/Titanium for high-heat roasters)

Certification Standard

FDA 21 CFR 175.300, EC 1935/2004 (Food-grade), ISO 9001 (QMS)

Technical Advantages

Coffee Roaster Agitator Arm is machined with tight concentricity tolerances of ±0.02 mm, ensuring zero axial deflection during high-speed rotation. This eliminates shaft misalignment, reduces eccentric load on rotary bearings, and prevents gear tooth wear from uneven torque distribution. Axial stability directly translates into reduced motor load and longer drive system life.

Coffee Roaster Agitator Arm features a balanced mass profile and low moment of inertia, minimizing oscillations and torsional vibrations during startup and deceleration. The arm’s structure is FEA-tested to avoid stress concentrations, allowing stable performance at variable RPM ranges without impacting the roast profile or mechanical coupling.

Industry Applications

Specialty Coffee Roasteries

Supports precision profiling with low-tolerance mechanical motion, critical for replicating roast curves across small-batch specialty coffee production.

Automated Coffee Roasting Systems

Integrates with servo-controlled roasters, offering synchronized rotation with variable speed control and minimal backlash for feedback-driven roasting automation.

Fluid-Bed Hybrid Roasting Machines

Maintains bean suspension and contact homogeneity when used in conjunction with upward airflow, optimizing heat transfer and roast uniformity.

Lab-Scale Roasting Equipment

Facilitates controlled agitation within pilot roasters used for process validation, material testing, and thermal transfer characterization in R&D environments.

Commercial Coffee Equipment Manufacturing

Used as a precision-fit component within OEM assemblies requiring exact shaft alignment and durable mechanical coupling under thermal cycling.

Food Processing Equipment Retrofitting

Serves as a replacement arm in retrofitted roasters where original agitators fail due to misalignment, fatigue, or thermal expansion mismatch.

Minimized Residue Retention and Cleaning Time

Coffee Roaster Agitator Arm is fabricated with a non-porous, electropolished surface (Ra < 0.4 µm), reducing the tendency of coffee oils and particulate matter to adhere. This ensures compliance with hygienic design standards, simplifies manual cleaning, and reduces post-batch contamination between roast cycles.

Additionally, the Coffee Roaster Agitator Arm features smooth radii at junctions and fully welded transitions, eliminating crevice zones where residues typically accumulate. This design supports high-pressure washdown compatibility and ensures faster drainage during cleaning-in-place (CIP) operations, meeting the sanitary requirements of food-grade processing environments.

Having Doubts? Our FAQ

Check all our Frequently Asked Question

How does Frigate ensure mechanical balance in Coffee Roaster Agitator Arm assemblies?

Frigate uses precision CNC machining and dynamic balancing during production to control mass distribution across the entire arm length. Each unit is tested for moment imbalance to avoid rotational vibration during operation. This ensures the agitator runs without inducing extra load on the drive shaft. Balanced arms directly reduce bearing wear and improve motor efficiency.

What materials does Frigate use for high-temperature resistance in Coffee Roaster Agitator Arms?

Frigate selects stabilized austenitic stainless steels like AISI 310 or 253MA for arms used above 500°C. These materials retain yield strength at elevated temperatures and resist thermal creep. They maintain dimensional stability during continuous thermal cycling. This ensures the arm remains aligned with the drum wall across all roast batches.

How does Frigate address weld integrity in multi-part Coffee Roaster Agitator Arm designs?

Frigate uses TIG welding with full penetration joints on blade-arm assemblies. Welds are inspected via dye penetrant and X-ray for crack and porosity detection. Post-weld stress relief is applied to minimize residual stresses. This prevents premature fatigue failures under rotational and thermal loads.

What type of surface finish is applied by Frigate to reduce fouling on Coffee Roaster Agitator Arms?

Frigate applies electropolishing to achieve a surface roughness of Ra < 0.4 µm. This reduces surface energy and prevents sticking of chaff and coffee oils. The smooth finish improves washdown effectiveness in cleaning cycles. It also enhances corrosion resistance in acidic roasting environments.

How does Frigate maintain dimensional repeatability for replacement Coffee Roaster Agitator Arms?

Frigate uses CAD-controlled machining and CMM inspection to ensure all arms match original OEM specifications. Every arm is verified for pitch circle, shaft bore, and blade alignment. This allows easy interchangeability without field rework. Customers can replace damaged arms without recalibration of the roasting system.
