Our Four Slide Stamping Process

HY D R O L Y SIS RESIS T ANCE
Material Preparation

The process begins with selecting and preparing the metal sheet or coil, ensuring it meets the required specifications for thickness and type.

Tooling Setup

Custom tooling, consisting of dies and punches tailored to the specific part being produced, is designed and installed on the four-slide stamping machine.

Feeding the Material

The metal is fed into the machine and positioned accurately for stamping. The automatic feed system ensures precise alignment with the tooling.

Simultaneous Forming

The four-slide stamping machine utilizes multiple slides to perform several forming operations simultaneously. This allows bending, cutting, punching, and coining in a single cycle.

Quality Control

Throughout the stamping process, quality checks are conducted to ensure dimensional accuracy and adherence to specifications. This may involve measuring critical features and inspecting surface finishes.

Finishing Operations

After stamping, parts may undergo additional processes such as deburring, trimming, or surface treatment to achieve the desired finish and enhance performance characteristics.

Four Slide Stamping Materials

Four-slide stamping offers precise and flexible production of complex metal components. It efficiently handles various materials, ensuring high quality for demanding aerospace, automotive, and electronics applications.

Stainless Steel

Because of its exceptional resistance to oxidation and corrosion, stainless steel is perfect for use in hostile settings. It provides excellent strength and durability, and grades like 304 and 301 are popular for their high tensile strength and formability.

Aluminum Alloys

Lightweight and versatile, aluminum alloys provide good strength-to-weight ratios. They are easy to machine and can be anodized for enhanced surface protection. Alloys such as 6061 and 7075 are popular in industries requiring lightweight yet strong components, like automotive and aerospace.

Brass

Known for its excellent conductivity and machinability, brass is often used in electrical and plumbing applications. Its corrosion resistance makes it perfect for durable components like fittings and connectors.

Copper

Copper is prized for its superior electrical conductivity and thermal properties. It is frequently utilized in heat exchangers, electrical components, and other industrial uses. Copper's malleability allows for complex shapes without cracking during the stamping process.

Carbon Steel

This material is appropriate for heavy-duty applications because of its strength and hardness. It can be heat-treated for enhanced performance, which is beneficial in demanding environments. Carbon steel is commonly used for structural components and machinery parts.

High-Strength Alloys

Titanium and nickel-based alloys provide exceptional strength and temperature resistance. These materials are often used in aerospace and military applications, where reliability and performance under stress are critical.

Plastic Composites

While not metal, advanced plastic composites can be stamped in four-slide operations. These materials are lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and versatile, perfect for automotive and consumer goods that require weight reduction.

Reducing Lead Time for Production

Long lead times for tooling and setup can disrupt project timelines and delivery schedules. The complexity of custom tooling often leads to delays in four-slide stamping. Frigate minimizes these challenges by utilizing advanced CAD software and rapid prototyping. This accelerates design and tooling production, allowing for quicker adjustments. A robust inventory of standard tooling components further speeds up setup for common designs. By enhancing efficiency and precision, Frigate helps keep projects on track and meets critical delivery deadlines.

Optimizing Lightweight Design for Electric Vehicles

Electric vehicle manufacturers struggle with producing lightweight, complex components that meet strict performance standards. Four-slide stamping addresses this by enabling precise multidirectional forming for battery enclosures and connectors. It minimizes material waste and allows thinner materials to reduce vehicle weight. Achieving tight tolerances of ±0.005 inches is crucial for high-density configurations. This process supports high-volume production, accelerating time-to-market for innovative EV designs. Overall, four-slide stamping enhances the durability and performance of electric vehicle components, improving efficiency and reliability.
